The Health & Wellness Center @ BCO was started in 2014 as a holistic alternative for BCO patients. We focus on the whole body and offer an array of services to help with injuries as well as injury prevention. We look at the root of the cause of illness or injury and offer treatment options such as chiropractic, naturopathic medicine, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, acupuncture, cupping, laser therapy, active recovery therapy, sport taping, physiotherapy, hormone balancing, fertility, nutrition, neuromuscular re-education and much more. We are always extending our services as technology arises and our department grows to better suit our patient's needs. We believe strongly in the body's ability to heal itself if we create an optimal healing state.

Meet Our Team
Dr. Julia Moen is one of five children born into a family of Medical Doctors. Originally from Chicago, she received her undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology. In undergraduate school, Dr. Julia was a student athletic trainer and worked alongside many sports teams. Dr. Julia was an All-American field hockey player and captain of her team in college. Prior to attending to Chiropractic School, she volunteered in medical clinics in Bangladesh and Ecuador where she received hands on experience in medicine. She has experience working in physical therapy departments, aquatics and on land, as well as orthopedic surgeon's assistant who specialized in knees and shoulders. For graduate school, Dr. Julia attended Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles. Dr. Julia graduated Salutatorian and was the clinic excellence award winner. In collaboration with medical facilities at USC and Venice Family Clinic, she also received special recognition for her volunteer work in clinic. Dr. Julia was in Sports Council, a member of the Student hearing board, and a Student Council Officer. While in school, Dr. Julia also worked and traveled with the semi-pro football tea, the Long Beach Lions, as their team doctor. Dr. Julia is a board member of a non-profit company, sensory research center, and a published author.
Dr. David Shaffer is a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh where he played NCAA Division II varsity basketball for two seasons at Pitt Johnstown. Dr. Shaffer graduated in 1999 from Palmer College of Chiropractic West where he spent the majority of his four years there on the Dean’s List.
Dr. Shaffer is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP), but will be completing the final steps to achieve his Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP) this year. His treatment philosophy pairs traditional soft tissue protocols with innovative rehabilitative techniques; targeting movement patterns and biomechanics to develop individual treatment plans for his patients.
Diane Kim is a Licensed Acupuncturist and a Clinical Herbalist. Diane is from Los Angeles, and received her BA from UCLA. She then went on to earning her Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Southern California University of Health Science, in 2006. Since the beginning of her career, Diane has worked alongside orthopedic surgeons and medical doctors to incorporate eastern medicine for a more holistic care.
She has a wide range of clinical experiences, treating people of all ages for a diversity of health issues including, pain and injuries, stress and anxiety, digestive and respiratory problems, to name a few. She provides an interdisciplinary approach to her care, incorporating many of the traditional Asian medicine techniques, such as acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion.
Diane has gone back to her roots and taught as a Clinical Supervisor for her alma mater (SCU), working at a community clinic, helping chronically ill patients. Diane strongly believes that teaching people about their health and demystifying their bodies help people take a proactive approach to their well-being.
Dr. Danielle E. Gran is a California-licensed naturopathic doctor serving the communities of Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. Her clinical interests include naturopathic dermatology (acne, hormonal skin, eczema) and women’s health (thyroid, adrenal and sex hormone imbalances) including fertility and contraceptive care, PMS, healthy aging, and the menopausal transition. Dr. Gran understands that patients are more than the summation of their parts. She addresses the root cause of symptoms with individualized treatment plans that consider the many facets of each patient's unique physical, mental, spiritual, and environmental condition. She believes in the importance of a partnership between doctor and patient, and she integrates education with attainable health goals that empower patients to be active participants in their own path toward wellness.
Dr. Gran earned her medical degree from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington, the nation’s leading naturopathic medical school. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Santa Barbara, majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biological Sciences. Dr. Gran is often called upon for her expertise and serves on advisory panels for Bastyr University, CA. Her practice utilizes clinical nutrition, lifestyle modification, and stress management as well as herbal medicine, intravenous nutrient therapy, bio-identical hormone replacement and craniosacral therapy. Her utilization of specialized laboratory testing in conjunction with conventional lab work allows for a comprehensive understanding of the root cause of patient complaints. The benefits of this individualized and integrative approach to healthcare have led Dr. Gran to become a highly sought after clinician in the field of naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Laura Capparilli was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. She attended Mira Costa High School where she played soccer all four years and then continued to play Soccer in college at UC Santa Barbara. In undergraduate school Dr. Laura was a student athletic trainer and has experience with various sports teams such as soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and crew. Dr. Laura graduated with her doctorate in Chiropractic from Southern California University Of Health Sciences. She has certifications in different soft therapy techniques such as tool assisted treatments, Active Release Technique, and Fascial Manipulation and a strong background in Sports rehab and taping techniques. She also has certifications for Webster technique which involves treatments for pregnant and post-partum women. In her free time, Laura likes to hang out with her two chocolate labs, go to the gym, and do anything that involves being in the sun.
Dr. Jenna Handlen is an acupuncturist, herbalist, and chiropractor. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of California, Riverside. She attended Southern California University of Health Sciences and graduated with a Master's in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine as well as a Doctorate in Chiropractic. After graduation, Dr. Jenna worked at wellness centers treating many different muscular-skeletal conditions and seeing many adult athletes from runners to tennis players to golfers.
During this time, she volunteered her time being part of a medical team for athletes. She also treated many patients suffering from insomnia, stress, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, anxiety, constipation, and fatigue. With both skill sets, Dr. Jenna was able to treat vast majority of health issues and help many patients. As a big believer in the body healing itself, Dr. Jenna supports the ancient art of oriental medicine to treat a variety of ailments as a method that is effective, safe and without side effects. Dr. Jenna helps patients reach their particular and personal health goals; including pain management, lowering stress, sleep disorders, digestive issues, headaches, and many more. She offers a wide range of services including acupuncture, moxibustion, fire-cupping, gua-sha, muscle release technique, electrical acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
Dr. Anthony Ramos has been a local of the South Bay area for 15 years. He went to North Torrance High School where he played football all four years and continued to play football in college. Dr. Anthony received his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine from Cal State Dominguez Hills. He got his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Southern California University of Health Sciences. Dr. Anthony has been working with various athletic teams in the area. During his free time, he likes to stay active at the gym doing weight training and enjoys the company of friends and family.
Dr. Sarah Kiley was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended the University of California at Santa Barbara where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology. During this time she was a student athletic trainer and worked with a variety of teams. It was also when her love of sports medicine began. She graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (now Southern California University of Health Sciences) in 1997. For 17 years, she had a private practice in Redondo Beach, where she specialized in soft tissue therapy for the treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation. Her background in sports medicine includes being a doctor for the Pro Beach Volleyball Tour (AVP) for 6 years, the Gravity Games and the Pro-Surf Tour. Since 2005, she has been involved with triathlons, not only professionally, but also personally as a competitor. She is the medical director and chiropractor for Triathlon LAB's Training Camp.
Dr. Kiley's well-rounded credentials include being a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner, a Qualified Medical Examiner (a specialist in Worker's Compensation), and a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist. She also worked in the pain management field for four years at a leading pain management facility in the South Bay. She currently resides in Redondo Beach with her husband and two sons.
Dr. Camille Garcia Marzan was surrounded by both western and eastern medical professionals growing up and was able to recognize her compassion for others early in life. She was a two time state qualifier in girls wrestling which lead her to a few years as a sponsored MMA fighter. Several injuries and surgeries forced her to stop fighting, but fueled her interest in sports medicine even further. She received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration of Exercise Science at CSU Sacramento. She moved to Southern California to earn her Doctorate of Chiropractic and is currently in a Master’s program to receive her L.Ac., Acupuncture license.
