Dr. Shapiro grew up in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he received his BA. He attended medical school at the University of Miami and completed his internship in General Surgery at St. Elizabeth's Hospital Medical Center/Tufts University Affiliate. He went on to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center/University of Chicago Affiliate, where he served as Chief Resident. He was an Instructor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University Medical School prior to entering private practice.

Dr. Shapiro is passionate about exploring non-surgical, conservative medical treatments for his patients' injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, and employs a wide variety of treatments including ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided injections to both the spine and joints, offering the latest technologies such as PRP and amnion/stem cell therapies, to reduce pain and restore function. As a marathon runner, triathlete, and avid skier, Dr. Shapiro understands how medical interventions can get patients back on their feet and back to doing the things they love to do. He served as the team physician for Sierra Nevada College Alpine ski team while living in Tahoe, noting the team has won 20 National Championships in Slalom and Giant Slalom Skiing. He also has volunteered as team physician for local high schools.

Dr. Shapiro is also an inventor having brought medical devices to market (read more here). Outside of medicine, he enjoys mountain biking, golf, tennis, playing guitar and piano, and spending time with his family.
